White fillings can be made of composite resin, glass ionomer cement or porcelain.
Composite resin is ideal for restorations on front teeth where aesthetics are vitally important. Back teeth can also be filled with white restorations. Composite resin bonds very well to enamel so in many applications it is possible to be extremely conservative ie; minimal drilling is required when a tooth requires a filling.
Glass ionomer cements bond well to all tooth structures and are used in many applications in dentistry.
