On the 3rd December Dr Elaine ran the Angkor Wat Half Marathon. She had enough energy left in the tank to volunteer at M’Lop Tapang for the rest of the week. She was joined by Richmond Road dental assistants Chen and Helen. Many thanks to Henry Schein Halas for supplying consumables and equipment for this trip.
Dr Jane, Dr Petrina and Seonmi spent last week volunteering in the M’Lop Tapang dental clinic. Thank you to Mario from Dentsply and Thea from Henry Schein Halas for their generous donations which enable us to provide much needed dental care to the underprivileged children in Sihanoukville.
Richmond Road Dental would like to thank Thea Webb from dental supply company Henry Schein Halas for the kind donations of filling material to M’lop Tapang. Dr Elaine took this with her on her last visit and as you can see the children were very appreciative.
In January Dr Elaine, Dr Alice and dental assistant Chen volunteered at M’lop Tapang. Apart from treating many children, they visited sites in Phnom Penh such as the Killing Fields and the Genocide Museum to get a better understanding of the history of Cambodia and why, even today, families are facing so many hardships.
All the girls agree that volunteering is a very rewarding experience. How can you not love helping children like this little cutie!
Not only did Dr Sarah donate her time at the dental clinic but she was able to assist a Cambodian women that had a medical emergency. When Sarah booked in for her massage she got more than she bargained for when one of the massage therapists collapsed. The local Cambodian people use Coining, a technique that has been used in treating many illnesses since ancient times. It is a form of dermabrasion therapy widely practiced in South East Asia. This ancient treatment method is employed to rid the body of “heatiness” or “negative energies”. Dr Sarah was able to offer a more Westernised approach to help.
In September 2015 Dr Jane, Dr Petrina and Nicola explored the amazing temples of Angkor before heading to Sihanoukville for a busy week in the M’lop Tapang dental clinic.

Earlier this month Dr Trish spent a week volunteering her time at the M’Lop Tapang dental clinic. She was assisted by two M’lop Tapang employees – Bopea and Shreypech. Even though it was not officially the wet season it rained a lot. However this did not dampen her enthusiasm. She treated approximately 90 children. This was Trish’s third visit to Sihanoukville and she noticed a great deal of change with more hotels and businesses in town. She was also very impressed at how well equipped the clinic is now, enabling her to offer a broad range of treatment to the local children.
